Before I begin, I just want to say I have never put my pregnancy pains and symptoms on the blog to sound like I am complaining. Have the last 8 months been the easiest? No. But would I change anything? Absolutely not! It will all be soooo worth it in just a short amount of time. The reason I write about these things is because I know in the future (in the very near future, actually), all of these aches and pains will be only a distant memory and I will have long forgotten about them. I write so that I can go back through later on and reread the joys and pains of this pregnancy and someday (hopefully) be able to compare it to future pregnancies. :-) Now... for your reading enjoyment... leg cramps... yay!
I read that leg cramps can be common during pregnancy, especially in the 3rd trimester. They say it can be because of the extra weight being put on, changes in circulation, tired muscles, etc. Whatever the reason, they are absolutely, positively, NO.FUN.AT.ALL. And I feel bad for people who have them reguarly (other than pregnancy). I had a small episode with one about 3 months ago and luckily didn't have anymore. Until early Sunday morning, that is. I was just getting ready to get out of bed for church and all of a sudden I moved my leg quickly, and apparantly, the wrong way. Big Mistake! This sudden pain tore through the entire bottom half of my leg and I could not move it. I quickly grabbed the back of my leg muscle and started to massage it. This lasted for well over 5 minutes. Ugh! Brad even started to worry, asking if there was anything he could do. Curling my toes up, did help some - in case anyone out there is looking for leg cramp relief. But, imagine me and my giant belly trying to even reach my toes... they wouldn't just curl themselves, they too, were tight. Finally, the pain went away and when I went to put weight on that leg, it was very tender. I made it through Sunday fine, but still being able to tell it was tender. When I woke up Monday morning I couldn't put any weight on it at all. This continued all day Monday and Tuesday and most of Wednesday. It felt like I had torn a muscle. It was so painful. So, here I am, 8 months pregnant, already waddling around, and now waddling even more because I can't walk on my right leg. I was a sight!
Things are still going really well with the little guy. My back is still sore and I can actually feel the baby hitting my ribs, so I may be making a trip to the chiropractor. For many weeks now, I have been able to feel the baby kick, move, and squirm around. But this past Sunday everything changed. I could actually FEEL the baby. Even though we have been able to feel movements from the outside for a long time now, I have never known what part of the baby it was. Now, I can feel actual body parts... like arms, head, etc.. So, what I'm trying to get out is instead of just movements, it feels like I am actually touching him! Make sense? :-) It probably won't even make sense to me when I come back and read it in a year, but, I tried. Along with this though, comes a lot more pressure and at times it feels like he is just going to pop on out! I can definitely tell he is growing.
4 more weeks and counting! Jen told me today I probably should start packing my bags. :-)
Oh, and just so I don't forget about the high temperatures we are having this summer, I'd like to document that today is (so far) the hottest day of the year in KC... at 105 degrees. Yay for having a baby in August!
