Week 27

One more week closer to the 3rd trimester!!

Last week I had a little scare - but in case you are one who needs to know the outcome right away, the baby is completely fine! Looking back now, I am so glad I did what I did by calling the doctor. Although at the time, the nurse treated me as if it were no big deal and I was a crazy person. Excuse me, but everything is a big deal to someone who has never been this far along in a pregnancy before, as well as two previous miscarriages. So here is what happened. Late Wednesday afternoon I started having some cramping, that continued to get worse. They felt more like a stomachache than anything that could be related to pregnancy. I cooked supper, still had an appetite so I ate a good meal, and then went to the couch, still cramping and by this time really, really bad backache and side ache. Worse backache than I was complaining about on FB if you happened to read and/or comment on that post. I mentioned it to Brad a couple of times, but could never get real comfortable. A few hours later, I was still having really bad sharp pains so I took some Tums - still not thinking it pregnancy related, more like something I ate. Around 8:45 they went away, and I turned nauseous instead. This is pretty normal for me to have an hour or so of feeling blah in the evenings so I didn't give it another thought.

Fast forward to Thursday morning I noticed while I was eating breakfast I had a few cramps again. Later on, as I was reading in my pregnancy book, I just so happened to be on the chapter that gave warning signs for preterm labor. What were the first two listed? 1. Severe abdominal cramping (like a stomachache) and 2. Bad backache. Along with some other symptoms. I immediately panicked! Called Brad, we agreed I should call the doctor so I hung up with him and dialed my nurse's line. Of course, no answer because they NEVER answer their darn phone. 2 hours later I hadn't heard from her, so I call again, leaving another message. She finally calls me back and I explain to her my symptoms and I was concerned it had something to do with preterm labor. What does she tell me to do? Take some Tylenol and lay on the couch for the next 2 days. If it gets worse then I need to call labor and delivery. I made it through Thursday and was still having on and off again cramping Friday morning so I called labor and delivery. They told me I should come in right away. I called my nurse back and told her that L&D said I need to get checked out right away and that I wanted to come in and see the doctor. Her response, you need to go to L&D because your doctor is out of town and we don't have a doctor to see you right now because we stop seeing patients at 12:30. It was 8:30 in the morning. Well, thanks a lot lady!

After hanging up, (and I am sure some not very nice words toward that nurse), I called Brad and asked him if he could meet me at L&D that afternoon since I had to go downtown to the hospital and he works about 5 minutes from there. Long story short... after 3 hours at the hospital and being hooked up to a fetal monitor, everything was fine. The baby was completely fine, moving the entire time I was hooked up to the monitor. Several tests they ran on me came back negative, and I had no signs of preterm labor. They really couldn't give me a reason I may have had those symptoms except some stretching and possible being dehydrated that day. Although I didn't have a solid reason, I was still thrilled to hear the baby was fine and wasn't going to be making an appearance just yet.

Other than that, the backache is the worst complaint I have. I posted about it on FB and got a ton of ideas and responses back. I have a feeling I will be visiting a chiropractor before this baby makes his arrival! I cannot wait to blog next week because I will have officially began the 3rd trimester!!
